Michael Portillo is one of my favourite presenters and he re-ignited my interest in train travel. On my bucket list is a journey on the Trans-Siberian Express through Russia which is available through the Railbookers. One of the stops is at Yekaterinburg: it takes its name from Catherine, the wife of Peter the Great, and is synonymous with the tragic last days of Tsar Nicholas II and his family in July 1918. I would visit the Church on the Blood that honours the fallen royal family and light a candle in their memory. The notepads from Trafalgar would be useful for keeping a travel diary. Merry Christmas everybody!

What I like about Azamara Club Cruises is that they offer longer stays, late night and overnight stays in ports, also night touring. It is lovely to get a flavour of destinations at night, as well as during a day. The dressing gown will not be worn much, I suspect. The Jules Verne travel company introduced ‘Singular’, a collection of Solo Group with no single supplement arrangements. The groups are comprised only of single travellers, accompanied by a UK or local tour manager. There are three departure dates for "Secret Balkans": May, September and October, the best time to explore Montenegro by boat and train, with visits to Albania and Serbia. Three countries in 8 days: what a treat! I like listening to songs of Lepa Brena, a Yugoslavian folk singer from the 1980s: they are full of passion and longing.

I am interested in healing properties of the plants and grow medicinal herbs in the garden. The Guernsey hamper includes hand-crafted, locally produced Wheadon's Gin. It is made up of botanicals, which include Rock Samphire, sourced from Guernseys' south coast cliffs. This sea vegetable is a super food: it aids digestion, boosts immune system, reduces inflammation and improves bone health. I do not drink spirits and would rather go for chocolates and fudge. My other half prefers gin. Each to their own!

A rucksack and warm fleeces would come in handy when exploring Iceland and its glaciers and volcanoes. July boasts the warmest temperatures with average highs around 14 degrees Celsius (57 F). A newly built discovery yacht Scenic Eclipse offers an exiting cruise around Iceland in July and August 2020. I hope an umbrella will not be needed! I am interested in languages: it would be a privilege to listen to Icelandic which is the closest modern language to Old Norse. It would be like travelling back in time. Iceland has practiced a form of linguistic purism: rather than loan words from foreign languages, linguists at the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies invent new ones. When the University of Iceland got its first computer in 1964, Icelandic did not have a word for “computer", so the guardians of the language had to create one and came up with "tölva" - a fusion of tala (number) and völva (prophetess) that adds up to the poetic “prophetess of numbers.”

What a nice selection of Christmas treats from Norwegian Cruise Line: shortbread and toffee to name a few! Norwegian Cruise Line have a cruise from Copenhagen to Berlin, then to Tallinn and St Petersburg where they stay overnight. I would love to visit friends there and walk down the Nevsky Prospekt again and take a boat trip along the river Neva under the numerous bridges. And then off to Helsinki, Stockholm and Copenhagen. Six capital cities in nine days: what an opportunity to travel in comfort and see new sights nearly every day!

Day 6 goodies are made for my family. They can share the chocolates while I sip and savour the champagne.

What a lovely trio: a bottle of champagne from Star Clippers, Hotel Chocolate's chocolate hamper & the Tailor Made Rail who offers a once-in-a-lifetime travel experience from London on the Venice-Simplon Orient Express. What is even better, the return is via a different route, through the Swiss Alps and Lausanne. I would visit the Bellevue Hotel in Pully, near Lausanne, where the family of Carl Faberge had taken refuge after fleeing revolutionary Russia, and raise a glass of champagne in his memory. Did you know that eight Imperial eggs are still missing?

The toy reindeers are adorable! If I am lucky to win them, I will take them to the North Middlesex Hospital & give them to sick children to play with. I hope it will brighten their day.
