Reasons for trip

We stopped off at Haworth Park in Accrington for lunch. The mansion house now known as the Haworth Art Gallery (originally called Hollins Hill) belonged to William Haworth and was built in the Edwardian Tudor Style. The building is situated within beautifully laid out parkland. It was bequeathed to the Council in 1920. Also, a numbe of valuable paintings were handed down, which are now on permanent display.

The Gallery houses the largest collection of Tiffany Glass in Europe, with almost every type from vases, tiles, jewels, paperweights and mosaics. They were absolutely exquisite and I’m afraid that my photos that were taken with my phone do not begin to show their beauty. (In fact photography was not allowed!)

The renovated stable block has been converted into artist’s studios (they are not open every day)but the artists love to welcome visitors. Within the main building there is an Arts and Crafts shop with handmade items from local and national artisans.

We sat in the bay window of the Gallery Kitchen Tea Room for a light lunch. The food was delicious, but it was the surroundings that fascinated me – the beautifully restored Arts and Crafts features.

To reach the Art Gallery drive along the A680 towards Accrington and it is on Hollins Lane. It is free to enter.
