Reasons for trip

A lot of people remember this Sandy Wilson musical as Twiggy famously appeared in it in the 1970’s production. The Musical by Sandy Wilson was written in the 1950s but is set in the South of France in the 1920s. Hence the songs and dances are a marvelous vehicle for this period of time.

I liken the production to opening a bottle of vintage champagne, which was delicious, fizzy and full of bubble and very special to drink. ‘Drink in’ is exactly what we did for every single aspect of the show, although the plot itself is somewhat flimsy the best way to describe it is as ‘incidental’ to the whole production.

For me the standouts were Janie Dee’s a Madame Dubonnet, Lady Brockhurst was played by Izzy Van Randwyck and she played it with just the right amount of acerbity and snobbishness, Adrian Edmondson plays her husband Lord Brockhurst and his characterisation was spot on and hilarious.

Be warned for those who do not know the theatre it is very small and the seating is along padded benches so the one downside is that you are literally sitting shoulder to shoulder there are no arm rests in between.
