Reasons for trip

Pann Mill is the only working water mill on the River Wye and there was a mill recorded on this site in the Domesday census. The River Wye is a lovely clear stream that you can follow through the park and back along a dyke nearby, with a children’s play area too with toilets nearby.

Pann Mill is maintained by the High Wycombe Society and is open to the public several times a year. It is an enormous watermill slowly turning and grinding flour – I bought some of the stone ground flour to make some rock cakes with, after eating some made with the flour from the pop up tea tent. You can climb up some step ladders to a small area to watch the stones grinding away and see the flour coming out below.

It makes a lovely free Sunday afternoon out on a sunny day, with various stalls to look at about the River Wye and High Wycombe. Just buy as much tea and cake as you wish alongside the freshly ground flour, as entry is free into the Mill itself with a donations box.
