Reasons for trip

I have been in the building a few times for the gift shop and “Rhino Lounge”:https://www.silvertraveladvisor.com/review?id=171277 café, but the other week I finally went into “Museum London”:http://www.museumlondon.ca and had a look at the exhibits. It is located downtown on the Thames River in London, Ontario. The art that was on exhibit was modern so not to my taste – Robert Fones: Signs/Forms/Narratives. Fones is a pioneer of Canadian conceptual art.

What I enjoyed more was the exhibit on the history of packaging – Packaging Unpacked. From cardboard boxes for Sunlight Soap to cigar and cheese boxes to pop bottles, the over 100 artifacts trace the history of packaging in London, Ontario and how industrialization changed the form and transport of goods.

There was one gallery we did not get to see because there was a private memorial taking place in it but at a glance it appears to have art on the walls that would be more to my taste. Another time perhaps.

We had lunch again at the Rhino Lounge and it was very good, as usual.

Every Sunday there is a free guided tour of the exhibits at 2:00 pm.

The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from noon to 5:00 pm and until 9:00 pm on Thursdays. Admission is by donation. There is a small parking lot in front of the museum ($2/hour) and an Impark Pay and Display parking lot across Queen’s Avenue to the north. In addition to the Rhino Lounge which faces Ridout Street, there is another fine dining restaurant at the back of the building which overlooks the river and is aptly named The River Room.
