Reasons for trip

I have been going to Bracebridge to a cottage of friends for 20 years but just visited “Huckleberry Rock Lookout”:http://www.discovermuskoka.ca/things-to-do/hiking-trails/huckleberry-rock-lookout-trail/ for the first time this summer. It is just outside Bracebridge, Muskoka and provides beautiful views over Lake Muskoka towards “Bala”:https://www.silvertraveladvisor.com/review/place/145891-review-parry-sound which I had been to a few years ago when staying in Parry Sound.

We went in the morning but I’m told it’s also a great spot to take in the sunset. It is also listed in the top eight places in Ontario to view the fall colours. Rain was threatening when we went but luckily for us, it held off until we returned to the parking lot at the base of the trail. Not so lucky for those who were just setting out.

The trail is a medium difficulty level with some steep parts, lots of rock, and uneven ground with tree roots so not suitable if you have mobility issues. The rock is over a billion years old and there are a lot of black spruce trees along the 2.5 km trail. The trail is a loop and takes you up to 134 meters in elevation. Look for white marks on the rocks and trees to follow the trail.

The trail is between Bracebridge and Port Carling off Muskoka Road #118 then Milford Bay Road. At one point on the trail you can see Muskoka Road #118. Parking is free.
