Reasons for trip

This is an interesting small museum attached to the “cathedral”:http://wasleys.org.uk/eleanor/otherholidays/spain/guadix/cathedral/index.html and included in the entry ticket to the cathedral.

There are the usual collection of C16th to C18th religious paintings and statues but it also contains several historical documents including royal permits and papal appointments from the C16th to C20th as well as beautifully embroidered bishops robes.

The highlight of the collection is the church silver with beautiful monstrances, chalices, crosses as well as host boxes and small shrines.

The two reliquaries of St Torcuato, made to house the relics of the saint given to the cathedral when it was built are now in the museum. The beautiful arm reliquary was designed with openings on the front and back. The smaller reliquary held part of his jaw.

Unfortunately there is no information in English, but the quality of the exhibits more than makes up for this.

I visited here as part of a “‘Flavours of Spain'”:http://www.solosholidays.co.uk/spain/discovery-tours/flavours-of-spain holiday arranged with “Solos Holidays.”:http://www.silvertraveladvisor.com/review/travel-service/168048-review-solos-holidays
