Reasons for trip

I consider myself to be an ‘aficionado’ of ghost walks – if there is such a thing! I have been on two in York in 1990 and 2011, one in Edinburgh, Prague, Sydney, Guildford and London. Of the two in York, the one in 1990 was far superior. It was actually quite chilling and left a lasting impression which remains with me 22 years later; but the second one seemed to be a platform for the guide to show off his comedic and acting skills – he was a nice guy but I was not looking for comedy, and our party left feeling very disappointed and cheated.

Of the other ghost walks I have been on, I found the scariest to be in Edinburgh and the least scary (albeit the longest) in the Rocks area of Sydney. The most amusing was in Prague. Our guide spoke with a heavy Czech accent; it was a freezing cold, dark evening in January and at every turn someone or something with the appearance of a ghost or skeleton would jump out of the shadows. The guide assured us that it was not staged, but I am not so sure!!! However, the (first) York and Edinburgh walks made the greatest impression, and if I return to those cities (which I hope I will) I would certainly repeat them.
