Reasons for trip

If you are lucky enough to holiday in beautiful Tenerife then why not take a coach tour to Mount Teide? It is the highest point in the island and is of volcanic origin but classified as dormant (the last eruption was in 1909). The views from the top are magnificent. You do not have to be particularly fit to undertake this journey as you can access the viewing area via cable car and this climbs steadily upward at a gentle pace.

One thing you do need is a warm coat or cardigan, not something you may think of when you leave your sun drenched hotel. You will be over 12,000 feet above sea level and it is somewhat cold and windy but well worth this small inconvenience.

For those who are very adventurous and fit there is a further climb to the very top but you have to buy a permit to be able to undertake this. My husband and I were content with going as far as the viewing area and having a welcome hot drink in the restaurant .

The volcano and its surrounding area comprise the Teide National Park and together cover 73 square miles. They have enjoyed World Heritage Site status since 2007and are one of the most visited sites in the world. Our coach stopped in a valley area as well for us to stretch our legs and explore some of the diverse plant life in the area.

Altogether a very enjoyable experience which I would thoroughly recommend. Coach tickets are readily available from the numerous shops and kiosks advertising tourist attractions in the main towns.
