Reasons for trip

Next to Chelsea Bridge is Battersea Park which used to be known for its funfair. No longer there, the park is now in serene area for walking, dog-exercising and quiet enjoyment. There seem to be boats that can be taken out on one of the ornamental lakes in the summer. A notice indicates that the very first British sub-tropical garden was planted here, and it's pretty stunning still today; beautifully tended and fascinating, with huge rock formations and the lakes. There are sports facilities and an area with formal fountains but also large grassy areas for relaxation. At weekends the road along the back of the park, parallell to the River Thames, has free parking. The promenade along the river is delightful with lots of seating, huge trees and of course the amazing Thames. The park monopolises the river between Albert and Chelsea Bridges with views along the river each way. There were herons along the Thames and ringed-necked parakeets in the park trees; both rather unexpected! A park well worth a visit; a bit different from other London parks.
