I booked this 10 day river cruise on the Upper Mekong with Pandaw who offer fantastic service and comfort on their boats. Our boat was the RV Pandaw with cabins on the main deck. There are only 10 cabins on this boat so personal service is ensured. The guide and crew learnt or names in a day. The cruise ran from Chiang Rai in Thailand to Luang Prabang and finished in Vientiane in Laos. No visa was required for Thailand and the visa for Laos completed on site on arrival by boat with on passport photo. So all this saves time and effort.

One does not need to be very fit and all excursions are included and guided. We visited local villages and towns too. The guide was superb and the staff on the boat fantastic. The food was amazing and having breakfast, 4 course lunch and also at dinner was a joy. There are always choices on the menu with local and European cuisine. I was lucky enough to receive a free wine package and laundry package for this trip when I booked as I am a Pandaw member. Easy to enrol as a member just go on the Pandaw website. Travellers under 18 travel free. There are often discounts, offers and some no single supplement cruises. Mobile phone and internet were mostly good on our cruise.

This cruise is suitable for all ages and I cannot recommend it highly enough, a 5 star experience.

The Mekong River looks amazing! We watch Sue Perkins on tv navigate this river, and it looked really special. Your cruise, being small was a great way to see it.
