After an overnight flight to Bangkok, we were still feeling weary the next day and were not in the mood for venturing far for our first dinner. The nearest restaurant to our hotel, the U Sukhumvit, appeared to be a Cucina Italiana called Rosso di Sera which was only a 5-minute walk.

During the afternoon, we were checking the menu in the restaurant window, when a friendly lady came out and told us they were open until 11.30pm and that the food was very good. She pointed to her hips, saying, ‘you don’t get hips like this from poor pasta’. She wasn’t pushy and we later found good Trip Advisor reviews.

On entering the restaurant, we were immediately struck by red and white: the floor and tables were white, the chairs were red, and the walls red and white. This gave it a slightly canteen-style twist, but there were linen napkins. It was slightly overwhelming, but the staff were friendly and very professional.

The extensive menu had all the usual classics with pasta, pizza, meat dishes, salads and specials. We opted for lasagne and pizza Romana with capers, anchovies and black olives.

Whilst enjoying a soda water and draft Singha beer, we were brought a complimentary snack of garlic focaccia squares, bread sticks with dill dip and a make-yourself bruschetta.

Both the lasagne and pizza were delicious and although the pizza had a relatively thick crust, it wasn’t the Pizza Hut dough style.

Service was good, and we were both feeling full and unable to manage pudding but were offered a complimentary limoncello as we paid the bill of 920 Baht/£23.
