Our extended family all visited Longleat Safari Park after Christmas. Apparently the day we chose was the busiest over the Christmas period but it was so well organised that we had a brilliant day. Also for the price of a day ticket we got to see the Festival of Light as well. The Festival of Light is well worth visiting. It was beyond our wildest imagination. This will be a family tradition from now on. Only one point to bear in mind – be there at the time of opening (this year is was 10.30 am) and go around the Safari Park first to avoid queues.

For the same price of a day ticket there is the added Festival of Light. This starts at 4 pm and as it was still quite light we went into Longleat House to see how the rooms would have been decorated many years ago. Each room was different. Also, although only a few rooms were open to the public, it was great to see them in artificial light rather than the usual day light. When we came out of the house the light was beginning to go so we then walked around 'Lantern Path'. The theme this year was Fairy Stories. We saw a magnificent Cinderella's slipper, and her coach and horses. All were of considerable size and all illuminated. Even the lights in the hedges were splendid. We have been to Disney World and seen some spectacular sights but even we were still amazed with the display. This is the first year we have been (now been going for 4 years) and we were told by other visitors that they thought it was the best yet. One thing we would do differently next year is to take a picnic as the cafe's were all so very busy and we didn't want to waste time in the queues!
Our group was made up of three generations, oldest in their 70's and the youngest 13 and without doubt enjoyed by us ALL.
