We stayed in an apartment in St Mary’s in 2016. We had accommodation in an apartment attached to the Bell Rock Hotel. The apartment was new but it is at the top of a metal fire escape so not for anyone who is infirm or indeed, has a fear of heights.
The apartment is beautiful, with new furniture and a lovely big bed. It sleeps 2 people. We had the ability to book dinner with the hotel downstairs if we did not want to cook. The best of both worlds.

We travelled to the islands via the Scillonian on the day before a storm and I have to admit to feeling very green by the time we go there. It is a crossing that goes through a mixture of the English Channel meeting the Irish Sea and the Atlantic. Not for the faint hearted that is for sure. For some reason the return crossing is much better. We sat in the middle and I did not look out of the window at the horizon, but kept my face (and therefore neck) facing forward which seemed to help. The best way I think is to fly out and boat back, but then you have the problem of where to leave your car!

The islands have a wonderful system for luggage. You book it in when you arrive on the dock, they stick a label on it, with the accommodation and for a very small fee they deliver it to and from the dock. Wonderful

The islands are a delight, beautiful and quiet. We were there in April in what was an unseasonably cold spell, but we walked everywhere and had a great time. It is very easy to walk all round the island.

We took a trip “off island” to Tresco to see the world famous gardens, which are lovely and the whole island of Tresco is supremely peaceful….if a little expensive.
For seafood lovers there are lots of crab sandwiches served in the cafes.

We spent one wonderful day on St. Mary's many years ago and it was like going back in time to when I was a child. Little traffic, friendly people, a slower pace of life. Amazing views and so much of interest. We took dozens of photos and my husband put them on the computer when we got back home and while we were viewing them for the first time he accidently deleted them all! Oh to go again and take more photos and spend time visiting the other islands too. Maybe one day! Thank you for sharing and reminding me of a beautiful day.

Somewhere I have often thought of going. Glad to hear it is worth it. Your voyage reminds me of one I took from Naples to Capri - half the boat was sick. It was so rough the next day the ferries were cancelled.
