This was our first trip to Canada and arrived in Halifax Nova Scotia, We were here for 21 days and for this my first ever review for Silver Travelers will be our trip to Cape Breton.

We were staying in Tatamagouche, N.S. which is on the North Shore of Nova Scotia and it was a 3 hour drive to Cape Breton, arrived at Hebridean Motel, Port Hood, Basic but comfortable. We were going to go Whale watching but unfortunately the sea was running high and all trips were cancelled and decided to just drive around stopping for photo shoots, We arrived at The HQ of the National Park and got a pass so that we could enter the park which covers most of the northern end of Cape Breton and stopped at various sites where we walked around designated trails hoping for, but not seeing any Moose, after a tiring day arrived at Trailsman Motel, Baddeck, Nova Scotia, on the shore of Bras de Or Lake, which had a new dining room for breakfasts as much as you could eat, The views were magnificent enhanced by the early morning mist rising off the water. We planned the day starting by going to a wild life park that rescues and returns to the wild injured animals, small to very large, but got side tracked and ended up visiting the Miners Museum at Glace Bay, which was also on the list. After paying C$15 (£10) had a look around the museum part with all the things needed to operate the mine and then went on a tour down into the mine, The mine was reconstructed especially for visitors after the mines were closed bringing in much needed income, Our guide was Sheldon Gouthro ex miner of the pit, he was brilliant, nostalgic, funny, thought provoking and sensitive when talking and explaining the workings good and bad of a mine. We arrived at 10.45am and left at 1pm, will not say what the mine was like, if you visit you will see that it is amazing. Close by is the Marconi Exhibition and where the first Transatlantic Cable started or came out that is also in Cornwall (and now we have been at both ends of this remarkable feat.)

Another pace to visit and is a must is Louisbough and the Louisbough Fort, what a place and history, It was rebuilt by the miners after the mine was closed and this kept them employed until it was finished and is now there for us to see and enjoy, you will need a complete day to see and do all that you want, we had the 3 options pass, entry to look around, guided tour around the buildings and lastly a part reenactment. will not spoil it come and see for yourself. There is so much to write about Nova Scotia that it will take many reviews to write, we were here for 21 days and18 days the sun was shining and it was hot for September/October, Cape Breton was part of it.

Nova Scotia is such a lovely part of Canada, especially Cape Breton. I was there about ten years ago and we drove around the Cabot Trail and went to Louisbourg. Happily we got onto the last whale watching tour of the day in Cheticamp and it was great!
