Golden Chariot luxury train

My husband and I saved up for this lifetime experience only to be very very disappointed with the trip. The issues we experienced were as follows:
Poor quality of cabin – experience bed bugs, very shabby looking (not at all luxury).
No end of time being spent on a coach – less time on the actual train.
Poor quality of guides used, and a very rude general manager on board.
No concept of customer service. Overall a 2 star experience with a 5 star price tag.
I would definitely NOT recommend this.

    The golden chariot is luxury train. We chose a 7 day trip called the splendours of the south. It includes a whole package of stay, food, tours etc. It is suppose to be a 5 star luxury trip. We booked via an agent in India who we used many times, and to be honest it was not their fault. The train is now under the management of Mapple Hotel from Kanartaka Tourism, which is where I believe the issue has been. The guides provided during the 7 day on the whole was of poor quality. The cabin we stayed/slept in was shabby, though they say the train was refurbished this is not true only some parts were. All cabins are of the same standard. The air conditioning was in affected and shower intermittent. These are just a few problems I experienced. The worse thing was the amount of time we spent on a coach being taken from one tour site to another. It appeared that the train was not always where it should have been for us to board back, so therefore was taken by coach to where the train ended up. Some days we spent 4/5 hours on a coach which is not what we signed up for. Whilst I agree that the standard of customer service in the indian subcontinent is of a very high standard this was not the case, in particular from the general manager during the trip. I never met anyone so rude, especially with a 5 star price tag. I have only just had an official apology that is after months and months of emailing to senior people in the companies involved. Hence why I am making sure people are aware.

    Wow - that's disappointing! You build yourself up to these holidays don't you and when they don't work out it's dreadful.

    Please can you give us a bit more information - who are this travel company and how did you find out about them? Did you book direct with them (either phone or internet) or did you book through a travel agent (if so, whom?).

    Was it an escorted trip and where and what did you do. You make the comment "No end of time being spent on a coach – less time on the actual train." Can you explain what you mean here. I'm assuming you slept on the train, travelling overnight and then did coach excursions during the day - is this right?

    I was really surprised by your comment about no concept of customer service as this is the complete opposite of what we found on our trips to India.

    Do they have different grades of sleeping accommodation on the train and what grade was yours supposed to be?
