After just returned from six weeks in India and an afternoon watching Viceroy’s House at the local Empire cinema (which is highly recommended), it seemed appropriate to have curry.

We returned to an Indian restaurant, which we hadn’t been to for some time. It was early evening and still quiet, so we had the pick of tables.

The menu had a good selection of the usual starters (samosa, bhaji, sheek and shami kebabs) for under £3, but we decided to make do with a couple of poppadoms which came with mango chutney, lime pickle, tomato and onion salad and mint sauce.
We chose chicken vindaloo (which was spicy but didn’t need a cooling raita) and mutton rogan josh (which unlike in India was mutton rather than goat) along with a mushroom pilau and garlic naan. This is basically what we always have but there were more adventurous and unusual dishes on the menu e.g. pomfret fish or chilli salmon both served with green rice or whitebait fried with chilli and whole red chillies.

The food was good and in sensible portion sizes so we did justice to it all.

There was a short wine list and from it we chose a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc at a remarkably reasonable £13.90.

Our total bill was just over £30 which we thought was good value.

The décor is fairly modern, with linen napery and work by local artists on the walls.

Perhaps because it was a Friday night, takeaways were being ordered, by phone and in person, and collected. The only downside was the guy taking the orders was rather loud and obviously repeating orders to ensure they were correct. All I can say is, I am now fully au fait with their pricing structure for deliveries, waiting times and discounts!
