I would highly recommend a visit to Loch Awe Hotel with Lochs & Glens. I went there with a friend at the end of February. We travelled by coach from the south coast – hurricane Doris delayed our arrival at the hotel but a hot meal was served to us on arrival at 21.00 hours.
Loch Awe hotel is fabulous and we were lucky enough to be given an enormous room, part of which was in a turret ( I made sure I waved my hanky out of the window the next morning), with a view of the loch.
We had excursions on the three days we were there, including Inverary, Oban, Fort William and Glencoe, we also managed to take an optional excursion up Ben Nevis. We were very fortunate with the weather and the mountains had a light dusting of snow which looked stunning in the sunshine!
The breakfast and evening meals were good and there was entertainment in the hotel every evening. We made lots of lovely new friends. All this for £164 – and that’s what I call a bargain!

Ian.Waughalmost 4 years agoYes - Aonach Mor is part of the Nevis range of mountains and yes - the cable car was originally put there to get skiers up the mountain (I think) ... and there are a couple of relatively easy walking paths starting from the top gondola station ... unlike Ben Nevis itself which is a fair hike from bottom to top!

SilverTravelUser_3671almost 4 years agoThat was probably the one - we followed some the skiers up a path from there. Great view when the clouds parted!

ESWalmost 4 years agoThis also has me confused as the only cable car I can find on a google search is the one up Aonach Mor...

Ian.Waughalmost 4 years agoAh! you got me there .. I think you must have taken the cable car up Aonach Mor, from where you'd have had a great view of Ben Nevis and the Great Glen ... if there's a cable car on Ben Nevis itself I missed it when I was there some years ago!

SilverTravelUser_3671almost 4 years agoWe went on the cable car - a bit of a trek otherwise!

Ian.Waughalmost 4 years agoI like the way you say you 'took an ... excursion up Ben Nevis' lol - they might have dropped you at the foot but you surely must have hoofed it up yourself?

SilverTravelUser_3671almost 4 years agoTravel to our destination took all day. Lochs and Glens is the name of the tour operators.

ESWalmost 4 years agoThat sounds a very good deal. Who did you travel with?
Did you do the journey to Gartochan in one day?
