PC Coaches has offices in both Lincoln and Louth. As well as coach hire they run day trips and short breaks. Out of interest I googled their website and started to read their on line brochure. I was soon sending off for my own copy. Brochures can often take days to arrive. Not this one. It came in the post the following day.

There were so many interesting trips to choose from – Cornwall and the Scillies to the Orkneys as well as Continental holidays. The short breaks pick up from most of the towns in Lincolnshire. I was definitely interested, especially when I saw the two day trip to Kynren. I’d already read Riversiderouge’s review from last year and this was something I didn’t want to miss out on and I’d already decided the logistics of doing it by public transport weren’t on.

I rang to book a place. There is a free phone number and calls are quickly answered. Abi is friendly and approachable and was at pains to make sure I knew there was a short walk involved from the coach with a climb to the seats at Kynren and to make sure I could cope. She answered all my questions and I booked up. They do ask that you have insurance for the holiday, either bought through them or your own. There is a small charge for a credit card, but not for debit cards.

The confirmation arrived the next day, along with a flier about another two day break for Snowdrops in Norfolk. I decided to treat myself to this as my birthday present. Back on the phone to Abi, she explained that the tour had been finalised so she would need to contact the hotel to ask about another room and would come back to me. She was back within 30 minutes. We quickly finalised the booking and I chose my seat on the coach. I chose seat 10 and she explained there was a bar down the window which restricted visibility for seats 9 and 10 and also 11 and 12 across the gangway. As I was sitting by the aisle and intending to look out of the front window this didn’t bother me, especially as the other free seats were towards the back of the coach. I was impressed as this is the first company that has taken the trouble to warn me about this.

So initial contact was very positive.

Although they pick up from several different places in Lincolnshire, they run feeder services so you don’t spend ages sitting on the coach while it runs all round the county picking up passengers at the different pickup points.

I was the only person to be picked up from Scunthorpe for Snowdrops in Norfolk, and they send one of the fleet cars to pick me up. I was brought home by car and dropped off at my house rather than the bus station – a definite plus.

About half the group joined the coach in Lincoln and there is secure car parking provided in the depot. The rest had been picked up by minibus and joined the coach at Boston. It was then straight to Norfolk with a short coffee stop on the way.

Coming back, people were dropped off at Boston and taxis were arranged to take them home.

The coach was comfortable, although only 19 people were booked on the snowdrops in Norfolk trip, we were in a 63 seater coach… It was a bit big to cope with some of the narrow Norfolk roads. I understand they had ordered a new 25 seater coach intending to use that, but delays in delivery meant it wouldn’t arrive until the following month.

It was a cold and damp weekend but the coach had very efficient heating – too efficient and we had to ask for it to be turned down.

We had nearly four hours to explore Norwich on the Saturday, which I used to visit the Cathedral, before going on to the hotel.. On the Sunday, we had a similar length of time in Walsingham for the snowdrops, have lunch and explore the village before a short break at Sandringham Visitor Centre on the way home.

I enjoyed the weekend and was impressed by the service from PC Coaches. I’m looking forward to my next trip….

Unfortunately my second trip was nowhere near as good as this one. There were several issues which I raised with the company through feedback and via email. Their response was less than helpful. It was a different driver who I didn't warm to. After the last experience, I would be reluctant to recommend this company and have severe reservations about travelling with them again.
