You can’t miss All Saints’ Church in the centre of Royal Leamington Spa. It is one of the largest parish churches in the country built to serve the increasingly flux of C19th visitors to the increasingly popular Spa.

The coffee room is in a specially built extension at the back of the church and serves a range of very good and cheap home made cakes. It is an attractive place with pale wood tables and chairs and the place to come for a peaceful cup of tea and a cake.

There is a small serving counter and the helpful staff bring your order to the table. When I visited there was a choice of lemon drizzle cake, cherry madeira, chocolate indulgence or Bakewell tart, all at £1.50. Gluten free choices were orange and almond or chocolate and hazelnut, both priced at £1.75. There were cup cakes, scones (£1.25), toasted teacake (£1.75) as well as toast and jam (£1.50) or crumpets at £2. In the summer months they serve freshly made sandwiches with a choice of ham, cheese or tuna fish for £3. A pot of tea is a very reasonable £1.50 and coffee is £1.75.

After much deliberation, I chose the orange and almond cake. It was a generous sized slice with chunks of orange peel which gave it a good orange tang. The almond kept it moist. It was very good. I was very tempted by the chocolate and hazelnut cake too but reluctantly decided that would be very greedy.

It is open Wednesdays to Saturdays from 10.30 to either 1 or 2pm.
