Moffat Mill was once a working woollen mill on the edge of the town centre. It does still have a loom tucked away at the back of the shop, which is demonstrated at times, and a video when it isn’t working. Now it is a ‘shopping experience’ and a popular spot for coaches to stop between England and Scotland.

Part of the Edinburgh Woollen Mill Group, it has a large mill shop with the usual selection of ladies, mens and childrens clothes at the usual reductions. Prices in the clearance area didn’t seem to be much less than the rest of the shop.

There was a good range of shortbreads at very competitive prices – this is the place to buy these gifts. The small whisky shop was offering tasters and for those wanting to prove their Scottish ancestry, there is the Clan Tartan Centre.

I didn’t investigate the cafe. The toilets are at the back of the shop, are OK but do get heavily used.

The Co-op next to the Mill is cheaper for soft drinks and sandwiches. Moffat is a few minutes walk away and is an attractive Scottish town with a good range of family run shops. The church is a splendid red sandstone building, but was locked.
