We visited here recently on a ‘secret escape’ break for a couple of nights.

What a find! This is a wonderfully relaxing luxury hotel near Chippenham and Bath with 24 spacious bedrooms.

It is a grade II listed building built in 1878 in an Italianate square house style with a three windowed service wing to the rear and a three-story symmetrical three windowed front.

Originally, a local farmer called Richard Keevil owned the property. Then in 1890 it was bought by the Blake family who owned a brewery in Trowbridge.

A century later it was advertised in the ‘Country House’and bought by two local businessmen who planned to turn it into a top hotel. It was then transformed, keeping the concept of a luxury country house. The coach house was converted in the 1980’s and a new restaurant opened.

The current owners purchased the property in 2006, where refurbishment and improvements have been made.

Upon arrival, we received a warm reception, before being taken to a lovely spacious upstairs room with a view over the garden, tastefully decorated and equipped with all you would expect to find for your convenience and comfort. Wonderfully warm temperature.

King sized beds have luxury 2000 pocket springs and 100% pure Egyptian cotton duvet covers and are very comfortable.

There is a 32 inch flat screen TV and Roberts radio for your enjoyment and relaxation. Individual guest safes are in the room with tea and coffee facilities, hairdryer, luggage rack and a spacious cupboard wardrobe.

Along the upstairs corridor is a beauty treatment centre offering world renowned pure Fiji products.

There is no lift available but there are a number of coach house bedrooms for anyone who may have difficulties climbing stairs.

The food is excellent with a nice variety available. Service is great, with friendly and efficient staff.
No problems parking – plenty of space!

As for nearby places of interest, there is Lacock Abbey, owned by the National Trust. The Abbey was used for ‘Harry Potter’ filming, as well as other well known films using Lacock village.

Corsham, is close by and has been used for the more recent Poldark filming.

Beechfield is a gem of a place and certainly worth a stay.

Thank you for your comment, ESW.
I like to add a bit of history to places and usually ask for some background information when I visit new places.
Will do Lacock Abbey and village.....but that will have to be another day!

What a lovely review, and such a refreshing change from some of the meaningless 2-3 liners recently.
