This is a review of an independent cycling trip that I did with my family a few years ago.

It was perfect for a family with teenagers, but would be just as suitable for cycling aged over 50. We ‘roughed’ it in trekkerhuts on campsites, but you could easily plan your trip with more upmarket accommodation. There is a special B&B organisation for cyclists in Holland.

Cycling in Holland is so easy, cycling taking priority over cars. It’s obviously flat (although the wind can be an issue…), the towns and countryside are lovely, the people are friendly and speak virtually perfect English and there are lots of options on where to cycle. You can cycle 20 miles a day, or 100 miles a day, depending on your cycling proficiency and preference. And there is something extra special about travelling light, with just a change of clothes and a few essentials.

We all loved it, and I can’t wait to plan my next trip!
