If you have a vegetarian in the family, going out to eat can be a great disappointment as the choice is often limited to omelettes or plain pasta. However, that is not the case with the Lamb Inn.

The pub is housed in a delightful thatched cottage with dark wood and well-spaced tables. We went for lunch and there was a simple midday menu of sandwiches or other light meals, as well as a main menu and blackboard of specials.

Overall prices seemed very reasonable, e.g. mains at £9 – 12, and everything tasted fresh and was well presented. .

Each day, there are three or four home-cooked vegetarian dishes and today we had the choice of chickpea, spinach and sweet potato curry, Mediterranean quiche, a vegetarian shepherd’s pie with goat’s cheese mash or a salad. Starters were less helpful, though, as there was only deep-fried Gruyère for our non meat-eater to select.. For meat-eaters, the choice is very wide, with about 10 main dishes ranging from steaks to beef stroganoff, lasagne, fishcakes, pies and chicken curry.

According to our family members, the chickpea curry and speciality lasagne were both excellent, although our stroganoffs were not particularly well flavoured. Each person had a separate bowl of salad that included grapes and other unusual items. and the sweets of Baileys cheesecake, banoffee pie and bakewell tart were all very good. The coffee was strong and we were even offered shortbread biscuits as accompaniment.

Service was friendly, helpful, efficient and welcoming – although it was a very quiet lunchtime and we couldn’t vouch for that on a busy Saturday night.
