This is the second time we have used Trailfinders for an extended winter break. This year it was to the Far East. We have family living in Bangkok so a visit was in order. Travelling that far it was obvious that we should then take the opportunity to have a look at some more of Thailand, but where to start.

Having used Trailfinders for our first trip to S. Africa last year very successfully we headed back to our local Trailfinders shop.

It’s a good idea to have some sort of plan in your mind and how you want to travel.
After a chat with one of the very experienced members of staff, it was home to peruse the brochure and make some decisions.

We opted for two of Trailfinders tours. The first to northern Thailand, Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai, and the second to Cambodia taking in Phnom Pen and Siem Reap. The two tours included our own guide and driver which gave us peace of mind as we knew nothing about travelling Thailand. The guides are local which gave us a real insight to the lives of the Thai people and we came away with much more knowledge of this very ancient civilisation. We visited several hill tribes where we were warmly welcomed, and of course many beautiful temples. Visits to one of the Killing fields and to a landmine museum were stark reminders of past history.

There is a considerable amount packed into these tours, something to think about as there are often quite early starts and several one or two nights stay in hotels, so living out of a suitcase. The bonus is that someone else is doing all the driving!
The standard of hotels was excellent, our transport was very comfortable and our guides and drivers were excellent. Because this is a private tour there is always the option to cut short the day if the going gets too tiring!

Trailfinders organised our all our flights, eleven in total. Remember Thailand is a very large country! Our first week was spent with family and our fourth in Phuket chilling out, but absolutely everything went to plan.

Would we use Trailfinders again. DEFINITELY.

I must agree - Trailfinders seem like a really good company. We used them to help book a 4 week fly-drive to the USA (later in 2015) to visit ten of the wonderful national parks. They had a good understanding of what we wanted and got us excellent prices on air fares (explaining that we could get premium seats on the return flight for little more than economy).

They also managed to get us the hotels we wanted in most places (the others we booked direct ourselves over the intenet).

Will post a review of the holiday on our return.

We've travelled with Trail Finders a number of times, particularly two three month trips around both South and Central America. They've always been excellent and really willing to help put the perfect package together and when we've had problems, they've been able to help us resolve them. Unfortunately they weren't able to help with our next trips to Taiwan and Ethiopia.
