It was one of those slightly chilly but beautiful days we enjoyed in March – watery sunshine with the promise of spring. And here and there in the beautiful Harlow Carr gardens, nature was coming to life – buds fattening up and getting ready to burst, plants pushing their noses out of the ground to smell the air, trees, still in their stark winter glory but with signs of growth along their almost bare branches. Harlow Carr lifts the spirits. Round every corner, along every footpath and growing in every flower bed are plants and flowers that bring the beauty of nature to the onlooker. So much thought and artistic design has gone into creating this garden that it is worth a visit monthly or even fortnightly to watch the small but significant changes as the days roll by. It's a place to stroll solo, to enjoy with friends and nowadays it is so child friendly you can take all the children and let them loose to romp around the gardens (espeically the climbing dragon and the fort). And then you can round off the afternoon with tea at Betty's, Yorkshire finest cafe serving all delight and delicacies of a Yorkshire spread.
