Went to see Joe Brown at the Garrick theatre, Lichfield, on Saturday October 15th. The place was packed with grey haired, balding oldies (including us!), – there for a nostalgia trip. I don’t do nostalgia, but my husband does and he bought the tickets, so off we went, me in ‘Bah humbug’ mode. I did actually enjoy it though. Joe, made jokes about no longer being young, and teased the audience about their age – but showed a remarkable enthusiasm and energy- an inspiration for us all. Am I too old to take up the guitar? I’d have a go at the music, but not jumping around like he did – and without a stick! His drummer was of a mature age too, and his son was part of the act, along with two younger males. I did remember the songs too, I’ve been humming ‘I’m Henry the eight, I am’ since we got back, and yes, I do remember it, maybe I do nostalgia after all! Ice creams not too expensive, £2 each – or perhaps we’re getting used to paying more. A spacious foyer, wide stairs and lifts for the disabled. A bar, not too crowded, which does coffee and cakes in the day time. The theatre is central, with plenty of parking nearby. If you live near Lichfield, look to see what’s on – I’d recommend it as a pleasant, accessible venue.
