For years I have used the airport shuttle bus from Pearson International Airport in Toronto in order to get downtown. It used to go to a number of the larger hotels downtown and Union Station for VIA rail and Go Train connections. I last used the shuttle in June but as of October 31, 2014, the service no longer exists. So, on my most recent trip to Ontario for the Christmas holidays, I had to venture out on a new experience to get down to the train station and catch the train to visit my family west of the city. The plan is for a train directly from the airport to Union Station but it isn’t finished yet. In the meantime, I caught the 192 Rocket Toronto Transit bus at a stop right outside arrivals at Terminal 3. It took me to Kipling subway station where I caught the subway. No worry about which one to get on – Kipling is the end of the line so all the trains are heading into downtown. At St. George Station I switched trains heading south to Union Station. I printed out the instructions but I am familiar with the route because I used to live in Mississauga and this was my route downtown. However, it was very easy to follow and was a fraction of the price of the shuttle at $3 for the trip versus $30.

Until the new train is completed, the TTC is a very easy and budget friendly way to get downtown. Even with luggage I had no difficulty until I got to Union Station. I had to carry my bag up a few steps from the subway station into the train station because I was in a hurry to catch an earlier train if possible so I did not look for a lift but there may be one. I made it in time to catch the earlier train which I likely would not have been able to do if I had been on the old shuttle bus because there are so many delays around downtown due to construction.

There is a link on the Pearson airport website for ground transportation that will take you to this option.

True, but the cost may be worth it so as not to have to change from a bus to a train then change trains in order to get to Union Station. I think it will depend on how heavy your luggage is!

I understand from my son is that the direct train route from the Airport to Union Station will be operational this Spring, however the cost is expected to be about $27. Cheaper than a taxi but not via your route.
