Last October I attempted to book flights to Alicante with Expedia, using my Nectar points (worth £25). I wanted to travel the first weekend in December to visit my friend who lives there, as early December is a bank holiday in Spain. I spent most of a Sunday afternoon on the telephone, but every time the operator found a flight and booked me on it, she would then say "Oh sorry, it has just gone". This kept happening, and eventually we agreed that she would look into it and ring me back, as I had spent over an hour on the telephone and my husband wanted to make a call.

The next thing I knew was that I received an email from Expedia confirming flights with Easyjet the first weekend in November – a month earlier than I had requested. I immediately telephoned and pointed out the error. This time I spoke to somebody else who said he would look into it and ask the original person I spoke to to ring me back and sort it out. She never did, so I booked direct with Ryanair instead.

After more fruitless calls it was eventually agreed by email that my money would be refunded. This was done, but the £25 worth of points was not included, so I made more calls to both Nectar and Expedia, who said that my voucher could be used in the future against another booking. I was happy with this.

This week I have attempted to make another booking to see my friend in March, hoping to use my Expedia points. However, when I looked at my account it showed that there were no outstanding vouchers. After more emails back and forth, I eventually received an email from Expedia, saying that my voucher was being used against a flight in November 2011, and asking me to print off the itinerary!!! I am speechless!! Not only did they make the mistake in the first place, but I have now lost £25 worth of well earned Nectar points. When I contacted Nectar they told me that it is between Expedia and myself. I am frustrated and angry, and am now about to book flights using another tour operator. I shall just have to resign myself to losing the points, as nothing would induce me to try to book with Expedia again.
