The Prama Sanur Beach in Bali was the final hotel in our exhausting full-on, three-week tour of Indonesia. We hoped for rest and relaxation and got it. The 420 room hotel is situated on the beach, at the southern end of the town, surrounded by casual bars on the beach and restaurants outside the main gate.

On arrival, we heard the magic words, “we’ve upgraded your room”. We’d booked a deluxe sea view room but were given a junior suite with garden and sea view. Bearing in mind we were there for 14 nights, it was ideal.

Our second floor suite (294) was on a corner with a wraparound balcony which caught the early morning and late afternoon sun. A separate lounge area could be closed off from the bedroom with sliding doors. The lounge had a desk (with handy power points) which I claimed as my study, kettle for tea but also a proper coffee maker with Illy coffee pods. There was also a mini bar, snacks, a huge TV screen, chaise longue and two arm chairs.

The bedroom was a decent size with good hanging space, iron, ironing board, slippers, cotton batik robes and room safe at a decent height and location. The bedroom had good lighting, two bedside tables with lamps and a second TV.

The down side was the bathroom which considering the size of the room, was tiny. The bath over the shower had a large shower head, but unfortunately unless you’re under 5’ 4” you had to stoop to get under it. My partner is 6’ 2”.

The room was in a good location in the main wing of the hotel. We had direct access via a set of stairs into the garden without having to go through reception. A library and an area with all the travel agents information books was nearby but I only found six books in English (why are hotel libraries always full of German books?)

The Bamboo Bar had been recently refurbished. It was certainly spectacular; an oval shaped open bar made completely of bamboo with white cane single and double seats swinging from the rafters and a host of other types of seating. A huge range of drinks was on offer and small snack plates were ideal for a very light lunch or with a pre-dinner cocktail.

There were a number of restaurants on site with the Italian restaurant being serviced by an adjacent wood-fired pizza oven which also did take aways. Breakfast was excellent and the egg chef worth watching for her skill and speed.

The hotel spa, right on the beach, offered a treatment of the day and we had a 20% off discount card. The treatments were very reasonable and it was easy to indulge. A 2 hour relax massage with body brushing at £40 was to die for.

There were two large swimming pools with so many sun-beds around both the pools and on the beach, that even if you came back from a trip mid-afternoon, you could find a bed to soak up the sun. The hotel had a range of other services: a salon, room service, arcade of gift shops arrange trips and a regular free shuttle bus to Hardy’s, a small shopping plaza and supermarket.

There was a resident photographer who would take you on a shoot around the grounds and then let you chose a complementary photograph with the opportunity to buy others at a reasonable price.

This is not the sort of place to come to for a couple of days: if you do you’ll regret it.
