An enjoyable break

Nidd Hall is a Warner Leisure Hotel. As one of our party had mobility issues I made my booking direct with Nidd Hall because I wanted to get a clear understanding of the layout and choose rooms that were suitable for our needs. I found Alexia very helpful and felt reassured the staff would be considerate to our situation. I later called regarding mobility scooters and a local company (Able to Enable) was recommended. Nidd Hall is set in 45 acres of grounds, so as you sweep up the carriageway from the road to the main house, you instantly get the feeling off country manor, half expecting Mr Darcey to greet you at the door. Checking in at reception was simple and there was our mobility scooter waiting to go. We'd chosen the signature rooms and found them to be a good size, well equipped and comfortable. Tea and coffee making facilities, fridge, iron and ironing board were all nice touches in the room, as was the in room safe. Whoever decided it was a good idea to bolt the safe to the floor of the wardrobe, meaning you needed to be on your knees to use it, won't be winning any design awards in my book. Inclusive meals are served in the Rawson restaurant and are a mixture of served and self service. We all enjoyed the food, the standard and variety was very good. Self serve meals tend to be of a carvery style, whereas the meals served to your table were as you would expect to receive in a restaurant. Our waitress was very pleasant and took the trouble to get to know us and remember our likes and needs e.g. making me stronger coffee. For a supplement you can eat in The Terrace, the fine dining option. The place is a bit of a rabbit warren, although you soon get used to the layout. It is very accessible and getting around in a mobility scooter was fairly easy, but sometimes the logistics were a bit of a nuisance. To get from our rooms to the restaurant in the scooter meant going up in one lift, going halfway across the building and then down in another lift, followed by another little ride. Not all rooms are as accessible as others and the distance from the back to the front of Nidd Hall may be a concern if you have mobility issues. It's worth calling to ensure your room is suitable for your mobility needs. There is plenty to do at Nidd Hall, be it strolling around the well manicured grounds, using some of the outdoor equipment, from fresh air fitness equipment to super sized chess. There is a nice sized pool and a pretty well equipped gym which I used early in the morning before my mind was awake enough to know what my body was doing. Certainly made breakfast taste better (and lessen the guilt). Entertainment goes on throughout the day, quizzes, dance workshops etc. In the evening the in-house entertainment team put on a variety of shows. I've been to some dire in-house entertainment venues but this was a cut above the rest and I thoroughly enjoyed the things put on. The in-house band sang a mixture of older and more modern songs. They would announce the ballroom style appropriate to that song if you wanted or you could dance in your own style. Anything goes. The staff at Nidd Hall are a credit to Warner Leisure. Quick with a smile or a good morning I found them helpful, welcoming and polite at all times. They even checked the roads on the internet on our departure to help us avoid known traffic problems. There are a few things that could be done better: It's disappointing that Wi-Fi isn't available throughout the complex. Even in the common rooms, where it is available, guests seem to be having problems with certain services. Although the overall standard of decor is very good, there are a few areas where it's beginning to need attention. A bit of carpet taped over, a well needed coat of paint, they need to address this before the place begins to look tatty. The base prices for these breaks seem high, however, when you consider the accommodation, the inclusive meals, entertainment etc., then the price seems more reasonable. There are many offers and deals to be had, so shop around and it's more reasonable still. Certainly we though it quite acceptable value for money and will consider a Warner's break again.
