We self-catered in The Quay which is one of the many self-catering accommodations available in the National Trust Trelissick estate in Cornwall. It is spectacularly situated overlooking the River Fal from the kitchen and the bedrooms as well as the garden alongside the river. We sat outside watching the sailing boats go by, and the King Harry Ferry ply to and fro to Roseland penisular. We were worried when we booked that the King Harry Ferry which is next door to the Quay cottage would be too noisy, but the noise did not disturb us in the cottage although you can hear it start up at 7am from the bedrooms, it was enjoyable to watch it and it was an asset. We used it ourselves to explore the Roseland penisular, plus there is a passenger ferry alongside which we used to go up river to Truro and down river to Falmouth, so we had a time away from the car, just using the river to cruise to our destination.

With the hire of the cottage you have free access to Trelissick gardens, plus some other nearby National Trust properties which is a bonus if you are not a National Trust member. The cottage takes 4 people and has 2 staircases, so you both have your own bedroom with facilites next door, and your own staircases to the ground floor (it must have been 2 cottages originally!). It is really location, location that is great about the cottage – you can spend ages watching the heron fishing, feeding the tame robin, and watching the cormorants and swans go by. You can fish from the cottage and it has it's own mooring if you have a boat!

The facilities are all the latest ones with a new kitchen and a utility room with good appliances, plus a wood burning stove so everything you could wish for.

The National Trust have it currently on the front cover of their self catering cottage brochure – so it is a scenic location!
