A good welcome on arrival and then, looking at the decor, it appeared that the (very low) price might be reflected in the quality. In the event, this hostelry proved not only good value for money but, as it was clean and had nice fresh (looked – and felt -brand new) bedding and towels, in my single room – and with a good breakfast the following morning included in that price – I can’t complain about what I got for the price in this B&B (as it is really, rather than a full-facility hotel) – except for having no toilet as part of the in-room ‘bathroom’ facility. What could they have done better?

The ‘Hotel Inspector’ would have pointed out that it would have made sense, when they were virtually empty and they knew that they had a first-time visitor, putting that visitor in their ‘worst’ room (on the grounds that that’s what I paid for?) instead of using a full en-suite room (and pointing out that this was a complimentary upgrade?) could only give a very positive impression and might even generate future business.

The room fittings and decor were, as mentioned above, dated – in what I think (from reading other reviews) is the smallest guest room (not quite the ‘smallest’ room – that was the non-shared toilet across the hall – and you get your own key!). There was an in-room shower and wash-hand basin, and a kettle with tea, coffee, milk etc (and a mini-fridge!). Hair dryer. Good comfortable single bed with, as I said, nice fresh bedding. Some clothes-hanging space, but no drawer space (not a problem for my one-night stay) – only a small shelf (for your ‘smalls’?).

Full strength WiFi in this room – but would have preferred to use it without having to sit on the bed and, although the space was limited, even a stool (if a chair was thought to take up too much room) would have been a help.

On-site car parking is limited, with the ‘Lakes Tours’ mini-buses taking much of the available on-site parking space – but overnight parking in front of one of the mini-buses wasn’t a problem for me as I was expecting to leave before the bus was needed for a tour. Situated right in Windermere village, there was a choice of eateries around – which makes it easy to run a B&B knowing that your guests won’t have a problem getting an evening meal (read my review about ‘Lazy Daisy’s’ restaurant).

If I visit Windermere village again I’ll spend a bit more, in another establishment, and see what I get for my money on that occasion. Hopefully the (en-suite) ‘bathroom’ will include a toilet.

An interesting review - it sounds a bit of an odd ball place.
