The hotel is situated a short way out of the historic town of Chateaudun, on the main road from Orleans to Chartres, so it is an ideal stop over for an overnight break on the way south to Spain or Southern France. We have now stayed there twice as it is an ideal 5 hour drive from Calais. We were initially a little disappointed that the hotel is very unlike other Logis we have frequently used. It is not an inn, more of a modern motel, but its advantages far outway the cosiness of more traditional Logis. There is easy access from the main motorways. The hotel is only staffed until 22.00 so a late arrival would require you to contact the hotel for a pass code to enter the locked car park and hotel. Parking and WIFI are free.

Reception staff varied – a bit cold the first time, very friendly lady the second visit.

We have tried a twin and double room. The twin is more spacious but is on the front and as the hotel is on a busy island, early morning traffic noise could be a problem if you like to sleep with your window open. If not, it is double glazed and there is a/c and heating. However, in warm September, we had to ask them to activate the a/c for us.

On our second visit we asked for a rear positioned room, so that it would be quieter. These are all doubles apparently. The room was fairly small for a double and both rooms were only really equipped for drinks for single travellers which was really irritating. There seems no sense in only supplying 1 sachet each of coffee, decaffeinated coffee, and green tea, for two people sharing a room. There was only one chair. Similarly the toiletries were extremely miserly. However, apart from those niggles, the bed was extremely comfortable, bedding was immaculate and there was a good flat screen tv. The bathroom was spotless, and the large spacious shower a refreshing change from the usual showers found in French hotels. There are all the ingredients fora refreshing night's sleep during a long journey. For longer stays, wardrobe space is limited.

We had ground floor rooms both times, but would ask for first floor at the rear in future, as the rooms 1-12 are all on the same corridor as the late night entrance door and we had conference delegates arriving after we had gone to bed. They were not rowdy, but even general talking disturbed us.

There is no restaurant on site, but an excellent little restaurant adjacent to the hotel, le P'tit Gourmand. We ate there on both visits and the fixed menu for €10.50 was excellent value for money. Additional little pichets of wine were only €2 -another rarity for France. The staff are very friendly and the food of good quality and variety. You need a pass code to re-enter the hotel grounds after 10 p.m.

We did not have breakfast as we thought it very expensive at €8 for what we saw on offer on the buffet.
