The Holiday Inn, Old Sydney was created by joining together two old warehouses in The Rocks area of Sydney, which is the oldest part of the city and a short walk to the harbour ferries at Circular Quay.

A huge atrium greets the visitor, giving a light and airy feel, though quite why Australian designers seem to favour browns and beiges everywhere is a mystery to me.

The rooms are spacious and decorated in a modern style and the hotel itself has a restaurant, though a little pricy. There are restaurants galore on the doorstep.

The location means that you can step outside the door at weekends straight into the world famous Rocks Market with numerous craft stalls, a relaxing and easy way to spend time.

There are bars and tearooms nearby, which, at the front side of the hotel can lead to some noise disturbance at weekends.

The rooftop pool is the star attraction however, and taking a swim here means that you can see the nearby Sydney Harbour Bridge and at a stretch, the Opera House.

If location, location, location is your thing, then this location comes close to the ideal.
