In view of my difficulty in walking any distance, I was advised by a friend to request wheel chair assistance on a flight to Singapore with the airline Swiss Air. Contact was made a month before my flight and not only were arrangements made for a wheel chair on the flights to Singapore and return to Birmingham but seats of my choice on all the flights were booked. Wheel chair assistance was provided at Birmingham but the real help was provided at Zurich. On leaving the plane a wheel chair was awaiting for me. We were taken straight to the departure lounge for the flight to Singapore, which involved a journey on the airport train and a walk of at least 10 minutes to the lounge. Singapore was even more helpful. We were taken by the gentleman meeting us on leaving the plane, through various back passages to the hall where a vast crowd was waiting to go through immigration etc.. Not for us however – we were taken to a small office where our passports were stamped, and then to luggage reclamation, where our luggage was reclaimed for us. The same courteous treatment was received on our return. After a long and tiring flight to Birmingham, you can imagine the relief to be whisked through customs with no waiting at all. The moral of this story (review) if you have problems in mobility contact the airline for their help. I cannot end with out my grateful thanks to Swiss Air for ensuring that the start and finish of our holiday enabled us to get without stress from A to B at the airports.

Good advice. Always difficult unless there are some helpful people around
