As a regular transatlantic tourist couple, we normally fly Delta or BA. This Virgin flight was the return leg of a Cunard fly-cruise (QM2 was brilliant!). We selected Newark as we did not want to run the gauntlet of returning the rental car by driving across Manhattan. The desk check-in was reminiscent of the budget airlines like the TV show. After ditching some weight and pre-purchasing extra check-in baggage we still had to pack and re-pack luggage 3 times albeit within the weight limit and the carry-on limit was a paltry 7 kg (and a hard sell to allow a small medical item). The flight was delayed but the actual flight cabin economy) was also like some package holiday flights. Knees up by my ears, and with the seat in front reclined the whole flight, the seatback TV screen was about 2 inches away from my face and unwatchable. The audio was faulty too, so 6 hours of enforced meditation as there was no room to hold the tray for meals. The meals (eaten off the spare neighbouring tray) were inedible – poor even for airline food. This is the first and last time on Virgin Atlantic. It is also my first ever airline review. Pity it had to be negative.
