The big surprise for any new visitor to Australia is how huge the country really is, it's almost impossible to believe that you could fit over 30 UK's into Australia! So when moving around from city to city it's important to choose a comfortable airline because of the length of the flights. We flew for 5 and a half hours from Perth to Sydney (told you it was a big place) on the Virgin owned airline Jet Blue.

We booked this internal flight before leaving home in the UK and had already checked in online and printed our tickets before arriving at the airport. Don't worry though, if you are unable to check in from home and print your travel vouchers, the major airports around Australia have check in machines where you can enter a code and print your tickets.

Jet Blue is an 'economy' airline compared to the main Virgin planes but the standard of service is equally good. You do pay extra for almost anything on board, for example food, drinks, checked in luggage and seatback entertainment but this is still a good quality airline and nothing like the uk economy brands such as Ryanair or Easyjet. Specifically, passengers are allocated seats so there is no stampede from the gate to the plane to claim seats together.

The cost of our internal flights were extremely reasonable. We paid around £70 each from Perth to Sydney, which considering the mileage covered was a bargain.

The flight was comfortable, clean, on time and the serving staff were pleasant and efficient. It was perfectly acceptable to take food and drink on board to avoid paying airline prices.

We used the same airline to fly from Brisbane to Melbourne later in our holiday and again found the flight to be comfortable and on time.

There are, of course, other airlines operating internal flights in Australia. Most routes have a choice of operators but on some routes only one airline will cover the route.

We deliberately mixed our internal flights across operators but booked the longest flights with this airline because we trust the Virgin brand and they did not let us down. Both of the flights we took with Jet Blue were great.
