We highly recommend the Tren Crucero (Cruise Train), a four-day journey, including overnights in hotels and off-train excursions, that provides a slow, comfortable way to experience seven of Ecuador’s nine climatic zones.

If you are worried about altitude, travel from the coast into the Andes because the gradual ascent from sea level gives the body more time to adjust than flying into the 2,800m-high capital. Also, Quito is more of a climax than the busy, commercial city of Guayaquil.

Wear layers, including a rain jacket. Carry daily essentials in a small pack. Your luggage will not be accessible until you reach your hotel. Personal lockers onboard the train make storage easy.

Carriages are equipped with ample electrical outlets for recharging your devices (220v).

We travelled with Sunvil who arranged a tailor-made holiday in Ecuador based on our requests. We highly recommend Sunvil.
