A couple of good friends invited me to join them on a three night break to Haytor. I am on my own and had never been on an HF walking holiday before. I'm a good walker but wouldn't describe myself as intrepid so was a little apprehensive! I needn't have worried. I loved every minute! We were met and greeted by the friendly team. I was allocated a beautiful double room allocated over Haytor at just £8 suppl a night as a single person. Meals were eaten at the same time sitting on round tables to facilitate conversation A very nice group of mixed age, mixed nationality. Each evening we had gentle entertainment, quiz, slide show or folk dance. None were obligatory but just lasted an hour, if we wanted them. Before dinner we were advised of the three walks that we could do and had to sign up for our choice. I chose the easy ones of 6 miles. A good level of fitness was required, this is Dartmoor, after all, but the beauty of the easier walks was that we had time to stop and stare and admire breathtaking views. On the first day we just walked for about an hour over Dartmoor, the second from Dartmouth up and along the cliff path and the second a much longer walk around Haytor. I was inspired, felt I'd been away for longer, and look forward to going again. Maybe on a single's HF holiday as there is no supplement on these.

Glad you enjoyed Dartmoor. We live locally, and feel lucky to be able to experience it's beauty.
