We were at Cardiff for a few days, so we decided to have our dinner at the Cafe Rouge. We have been to a Cafe Rough for lunch before a long while ago. We sat down and had a look at their summer menu. I decided to go for the 2 course set menu which is the avocado and bacon salad and follow by the chicken breast escalope. My husband went for the a la cart menu. He choose the French onion soup as a starter and follow by confit duck leg. My salad consist of a few pieces of chopped bacon and avocado on top of some salad leaves. The chicken breast escalope was quite a general portion but it have been fried to death. Very dried and crispy. My husband's French onion soup was nothing special and the duck leg was tiny. He was struggling to cut it because it was so tough, considering it was suppose to be slow cooked. I have a glass of coke and my husband had a glass of red wine. I don't think either of us has enjoyed the dinning experience. The restaurant was not at all busy. There was a party of 4 people sitting at the table opposite us and that was it. The only bit that I enjoy was sitting open air dining area in front of the arcade. It is not something that we normally do. We usually choose to sit inside a restaurant. The cane furniture does create a kind of French atmosphere. It was quite expensive for what it was. We did not make use of the Tesco Clubcard boost, I did not have enough Clubcard points anyway. I am afraid I will not be back again.
