In the town of Masterton, 1.5 hours north of Wellington, New Zealand, we found a gem of an Indian restaurant. Spices of India has been open here for 6 years, the owner is from Mumbai but now considers New Zealand home (his parents in law were visiting from Mumbai when we spoke to him).

The menu contains lots of favourites which UK curry lovers would recognise, for example, jalfrezi, dhansak, madras, buna. Being in the country of lamb, we opted for Buna Lamb and lamb Dal Gosht after shared starters of lamb seek kebab and paneer pakora. All the food was delicious, the meat was perfectly tender and our curries, rated 'medium' were spicy but not too hot. The restaurant has a BYOB policy for wine with a $5 corkage charge. We had an excellent meal with friendly service and plan another visit before we move on.

As everything is on one level, the restaurant is suitable for anyone with limited mobility.

The restaurant doesn't have a website, but it can be found on Lincoln Road, Masterton. Definitely worth a visit if you find yourself in the area.
