Bella Italia, The Strand, London just along from Charing Cross station The restaurant is just opposite the Vaudeville and the Adelphi theatres and a short distance from the Savoy Theatre. Early evening, around 6pm is the best as it soon fills up with diners after that. You always know what to expect from the Bella Italia chain, so the decorations and atmosphere are the same as in other restaurants. When I visited, there were some new additions to the menu including Sausage-Ragu Baked pasta at £9.95, so I thought I would go for that. It was very tasty with plenty of creamy sauce and large shell pasta. I did expect to see, well, ‘sausages’ but you just get the flavour as ground sausage-meat in the sauce (I think that’s what it was anyway). Clearly nothing towards your 5 or 7 a day, unless you count the grapes in the red wine, but you could easily add a side salad. There is enough sauce to also add bread if you are hungry. Good service, efficient, friendly, especially if you are a lone diner. The same pricing as other locations, so not outrageous, and good value for the middle of London.
