After spending several enjoyable hours on our feet around Crich Tramway village plus several tram rides, we were ready for a cup of tea, so headed to Rita’s Tea rooms. This is a long low building with an old fashioned feel with its stained glass windows and net curtains, apart for the modern pale wood tables and chairs. On nice days there is further seating outside.

There was a selection of sandwiches with salad in a chiller cabinet and the main counter with a display of cakes – orange polenta, snickers cake, fruit cake, Viennese whirls, home made biscuits and scones. There was a reasonable choice of herbal tea for me.

I settled on a blood orange and ginger tea. Michael as always wanted 'proper' tea and chose a slice of orange polenta cake to go with it. It was a generous size portion, moist, crumbly and a good orange flavour. at £4.20 for cake and a pot of tea for one we felt this was good value.

The tea room also serves sausage or bacon buttes as well as toast or toasted teacakes for early visitors. Hot meals are served between 12-2.30. For a cheap meal there is pie and mushy peas for £3.50. Soup and a roll is £4. Jacket potatoes are £5 and paninis from £5-6. Otherwise there is a selection of hot meals from £6.50-£8 including Quiche and salad, Smoked salmon fishcakes or gougons of plaice.

Service was good and staff pleasant. There is good diasbaled access up a ramp. Also any profits go to the preservation of the trams.
