I visited The Other Place for the first time today. This building housed a traditional Edinburgh pub (The Stag's Head) for many years, it''s had a major refurbishment and change of image. First impressions were good, it's spacious and it's nicely done in a sort of traditional brick and exposed wood way.

I was meeting a friend for lunch at 12:30. The place was quite quiet and stayed quiet throughout our visit. It prides itself on its range of beers but as my friend was going back to work, we stuck to fizzy water.

The menu comprised various burgers, hotdogs, chilli dishes and sub sandwiches. We ordered a daily specials cajun burger and a pulled pork sub sandwich. Despite the place being quiet, this took about 30 minutes to arrive, not ideal at lunchtime. The food itself was fine and our plates were cleared promptly when we finished eating. The waitress never returned and it took some time to flag her down to order coffees. The coffees were good, but again, they took too long to arrive and were eventually delivered by the barman.

The toilets were recently refitted and were clean and pleasant, I didn't spot a disabled loo, but I expect it was in a different part of the bar.

The staff we encountered (waitress and barman) were both polite and friendly, but the waitress seemed to be rushed off her feet, even though the place was quiet.

In summary, The Other Place is a pleasant enough bar with reasonable food, but perhaps not the best choice for lunch if you only have 1-1.5 hours to spend.
