This establishment is situated on the Isle of Portland, Dorset, next to the Portland Bill Lighthouse. There is an indoor restaurant and a kiosk for eating outside on the 16+ bench tables that overlook the sea, the views are stunning which is probably the only reason for being there. They have got the kiosk operation off pat, which means you order at one of the 4 serving hatches, take your seat and within minutes your number is called and you collect from another hatch. This is a daytime restaurant only, closing at about 5pm each day. We did not use the indoor restaurant (which looked quite attractive) on our visit but snacked outside for the views, it was quite busy for a Monday but we had no trouble finding a seat. Looking at the restaurant menu, it appeared a bit expensive for lunch or early dinner eg. Fresh Crab Salad – £16.95, scampi and chips – £9.95, egg, chips and 2 sausages – £6.95, cheddar/stilton Ploughmans – £8.95. Sunday roasts look more reasonable at £8.95 but you are advised to book in advance. We snacked outside, example prices were – £3 – burger, bowl of chips – £2.75, sandwiches about the £6 mark, coffee was over £2. As I said you are paying for the view. The Dorset cream tea was £5.25, ouch, but the scones were delicious. A lovely place to stop for refreshment after an amble along the coastal path or a visit to the lighthouse, with it's museum. Planning to revisit in November when I suspect we will be dining inside. Local car park is 80p p/h.
