As we were spending the weekend at the Cotswold Lodge Hotel, we reserved a table at Gees, which is just across the road from the hotel, to celebrate a family birthday. When we arrived, on a warm Saturday evening, the atmosphere was buzzing with every table full and, as we were early, we seated ourselves at the bar awaiting our table. Our drinks took a very long time to arrive but we enjoyed watching the various cocktails being made by the hard-working bar staff and were offered a generous serving of olives. Although there was a reasonably sized seating area at the bar, we noticed several groups standing around as they waited for their tables. For starters the terrine was delicious but we were slightly disappointed by the queen scallops served simply in their shells. With hindsight we felt we should have ordered bread or rolls as an accompaniment. The Cornish Sole, which we presume to be Megrim, was delicious and the Hamburger and Chips were very tasty. For dessert we shared a meltingly gorgeous strawberry pavlova and a strong, dark chocolate expresso tart. To accompany our meal we had bottles of chilled prosecco, Sauvignon Blanc and various local ales and lagers. We also had chilled tap water served in an attractive bottle. Waiting staff were pleasant and attentive at all times. We would certainly return.
