My daughter in law and I had decided to have an early meal after Christmas shopping on a late December afternoon in Kingston upon Thames.

The restaurant is down a side alley in the Market Place and to be honest I was totally unaware of its existence even as a Strada lover!! (my favourite is at The More overlooking Tower Bridge).

We asked for tap water (arrived after second request) and a bottle of wine – our first choice was out of stock so we settled for Montepulciano (£17.95) which was a very good fruity medium bodied wine. I also had a bottle of sparkling water.

We shared a starter of Pesto Pomodoro bread which was quite tasty but there would have been far too much for one person!

Neither of us could decide on a main course so we ended up ordering a Pizza Contadina (goats cheese) and a Strozzapettii Pugliese (pasta with meatballs, sausage and pancetta) which we decided to share! Both were delicious and we were sadly unable to finish either as quite big portions!

Service was okay – nothing special – and the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy at that time – 5pm approx. Neither of us liked the fact the tables were extremely close together which was a negative point. Even "size zero's" would have difficulty squeezing by some of the tables!

We declined desserts and coffee and asked for the bill which came to £47.55 excl service which didn’t seem as reasonable as the recent Carluccios meal in Covent Garden where we had desserts and coffees!) – see separate review. However as we had Tesco Strada vouchers (payable for the food only) the bill was reduced to £20.35.

Not sure I would choose to visit this particular Strada again. There is no view unlike my favourite at The More which overlooks Tower Bridge and although the food was good there still seemed to be something lacking in the ambience and the proximity of the tables was a definite turn off!
