Eileen and I visited The Central Grill on recommendation from a friend and were very pleasantly surprised. We met Gerry the owner to tell him who had recommended us and he sat with us for a few minutes and explained his aim and his methods. He does a wide range of meals mainly British and Irish all cooked to order, nothing is kept warm 'just in case' but, as he explained, this is so as to remain in the area he knows best, his comfort zone. They put on a special Tuesday evening Norwegian meal which I decided to try and Eileen had a Chicken New-Yorker (not very British sounding I admit) but a beautifully cooked butterfly chicken breast with a bacon and chilli sauce which came with fresh salad and a choice of potatoes, Eileen chose mashed potato which were as good as her 'mum' had done in her childhood. My Norwegian meal was 'Kjottekaker' or Norwegian meatballs in a thick sauce-gravy with boiled potatoes and cabbage in a white sauce (something I had never seen before). It was delicious. We had a bottle of house Red (an excellent choice) and Ice Cream to follow. A superb meal in lovely surroundings served by very friendly people. The bill €27. I seriously recommend a visit to anyone in the area, about 5km south of Torrevieja, on the N332 coast-road turn inland at Carrefour for about 1km, and about 20km north of the Mar Menor.
