The Piccolo Mondo is not the easiest restaurant to find in Wimborne. It lurks down an alleyway beside the library near to the Minster. Once you have succeeded in finding the doorway, you then need to go upstairs and then you find a cosy little restaurant which has been there over 20 years. It took us years to get to know of it! The owner who is, of course, Italian, treats you to a floor show of flamboyant behaviour, especially if he gets to know of a birthday, when he will sing to you at the top of his voice. The pizzas are very nice with a good light dough base, but the other dishes are very reliable. We like to go for their lunch time special where you get a starter and a half pizza or pasta dish for about £9.00 I think. It is just enough for us. The food is prepared in a tiny kitchen, but it is consistently good. It is quite clean, but it is not as up-to-date as you might wish, but that said it is good value. Wine is sold by the carafe and is very drinkable. They also have a card which can be stamped every time you have a full-price pizza or pasta, at the end of 9 stamps you get a free one (pizza or pasta). It is nice to eat there and then go for a wander round the quiet streets of Wimborne to work off your supper!
